This is a macro photo of my sister's cat, Mecha's (short for Mechanical Warhead) face. He is quite a handsome fellow (Siamese and DSH cross) and could care less that my camera was an inch away from his eyeball.

Ironically this was the first "sporty" car we looked at. Brian loved it, so now he has a little 1995 Acura Integra.

Mostly it's a big hurrah for me NEVER having to drive him to work again!

It's been a whirlwind of a week. She's there, she's safe. There are still a number of things making me anxious. I hope I'm overreacting (I usually do when it comes to the safety and well being of my beloved hawk-mare).

More updates and a blog update later when I take my study break. I am DETERMINED to get school work done today so the rest of my week will be more productive and less stressful.

Oh, and I did take her out on the trails today (in hand) and she LOVED THEM.

Sometimes I feel like all the dreams I have about my future are laid on the foundation that is Her.

I have seen so many gross horribly conformed paints in the past year, I MUST point out an absolutely cute one. Very nice hip, slightly upright shoulder and short pasterns, but not bad. This is totally the kind of horse I would snatch up for Brian (though a little taller might be good, she is BEEFY).

Just saying.

Want to do this photography contest. BUT what the hell to take photos of? I'm clearly not a city or people photographer... maybe I should open that door? Not sure how to take photos of strangers without seeming creepy though? Oooh! I just had a thought: what about photos of our many bridges with Mt. Hood in the background? Or something similar?

There is all this cool graffiti around Portland. My favorite is the tag that says: "DURING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE MEET HERE" and then someone else tagged underneath "for coffee and doughnuts..." I hope the city didn't get rid of those. I was seriously laughing for two days straight.

I really want to go camping. Need camping buddies or a boyfriend that doesn't have to work.

Crappy cellphone picture — I forgot my camera!

I was able to get her lower leg swelling down by about one half with a very tight standing wrap last night. This is good news — if she stays too swollen it will impede her ever being a riding horse again. Hopefully we can reduce it more over the next couple days.

So the fluid moved to her belly and now she has a nice jiggy edema. This is okay too — better her belly than her leg! She kind of looks like she has a sheath and balls now the way the udder-swelling and edema look to casual inspection.

So this morning I got out my clay poultice and did a tight poultice wrap with that to see what kind of affect that would have on the swelling (as you can see, the clay was rather fun to play with). It's difficult to wrap the stifle area, but I'm getting better at it!

When I was leaving two red tails who were just getting their mature plumage (probably siblings) swooped in to greet me. They were literally five feet away from me in the grass and gave me a very sharp intelligent regard. That filled me with hope and awe. The red tail has appeared in the past, strongly associated with Deli, when she began the road to recovery after injuries. I have a feeling the red tail is HER spirit animal considering the first time one landed right next to her on a fence she nickered at it (this was during a serious illness at the EQC), which is odd behavior for a horse greeting a bird of prey.

I'm feeling truly hopeful for the first time in days that Deli will make a full recovery.

And I tried reducing the grain I mixed the antibiotics in and putting molasses in instead, and she ate it right up! Thanks for reminding dumbass-me that that works...

Here is a non-artsy picture of my backyard so you can appreciate some of what I have to work with. See the path? That goes down to our compost and lower veggie bed.

More artsy ones under here... )

I'll be processing some more as the day goes on and potentially adding more. Mostly macro stuff because I've been limited to my backyard these past two weeks. Also, if you want to comment on my DeviantART account that would be awesome too, since I try and upload what I think are the better photos there for critique too.

None of her being ridden since I almost always ride alone. Or when Brian did come out (like this first picture) he took pictures of the rain and buckets and "interesting moss" instead of us. Dweeb boy!
From Spring2010

I was just going to hop on her bareback, so taking her down to the arena to clean her feet was easier. I like the tie-rings we have in the arena anyway. Not a horrible conformation shot of my gal... except for me cleaning her toes. And yes, I realize she is FAT in these photos. Three days of an hour out on the green grass in a row and she balloons up.

Two more of the redhead... )

That's all for now!

I think I'm feeling anxious about the vet re-check tomorrow and that's why my brain is fussing..?

But really, what's a couple more months of sitting around in the big scheme of things?

Nothing. 'Specially with an Arabian X (HYBRID VIGOR!) that will live to be 35 if she decides to never have a fatal accident.

My leaser rode her bareback today and apparently she was AWESOME and cuddly. Yeah, that's my girl.

Here are two to tease you, but the rest are going into my deviantART gallery. Please do check it out and leave comments! But please DO note that these images are copyrighted to me, Marie Burcham. Okay then!

I really should say something about my day. All I really have the energy to type is that my red-headed wenchy girl is fast. As in, she can haul serious ass and faster than horses taller and more lithe-looking than her.
I took these the other day. I also have a question about "stocking up" for the horsey folks out there.

Now introducing the soul of the redhead:
lurath: teephs (Default)
I'm debating between Ursula or Xyla (means "woodland") for the birdie. All the names I have tried on her so far (things that mean "hope" more or less, cause I need that in my life) haven't worked for her at all.
I also wonder if "she" is actually a "he" because she has found her voice! And it is very loud at times.
So I'm considering these names, which are more gender neutral: Zade and Tanvee.

Pictures! )
